German pop producer and former pop singer Frank Farian has died peacefully at home in Miami at the age of 82, the Allendorf Media agency announced on behalf of his family on Tuesday.

Saarl's New Year's reception

Farian has been producing famous pop music classics since the 1970s. Whether it’s ‘Daddy Cool’ or ‘Rasputin’: his songs are pop music classics and the soundtrack of a generation.

He founded worldwide successful groups such as Boney M. and Milli Vanilli, about whom a film was recently released. In the early 1990s it became known that the two members of the band Milli Vanilli did not sing themselves.

Farian was born as Franz Reuther in Kirn an der Nahe. At the age of 14 he moved to Saarland and learned to become a chef there. In 1963 he recorded his first album with his band Die Schatten in a former cowshed. From Saarland we went to Rosbach near Frankfurt and later to the US. (sda/dpa)
