Lufthansa registers higher domestic demand as a result of railway strike Surprise in murder of Jestetten (D): defendant confesses in court

The Lufthansa Group is seeing higher demand on domestic German routes as a result of the train drivers’ strike. There are “some additional bookings” for the strike period, it was said on Tuesday at the core company Lufthansa in Frankfurt.

Lufthansa sometimes uses larger aircraft to offer as many customers as possible a travel option. Subsidiary Eurowings also noticed a strong increase in demand on its domestic German routes. A spokesperson explains that today the highest bookings of the past four years have been recorded.

Additional flights between Berlin and Düsseldorf can be booked from Thursday. Eurowings also wants to launch larger aircraft. Compared to an Airbus A319, an A321 from the same series with 210 seats has about 40 percent more capacity.

Lufthansa guests can also become victims of the railway strike through the combination offer ‘Lufthansa Express Rail’. The airline said customers would be informed about connections and disruptions. The tickets can be rebooked free of charge.

In the collective labor agreement dispute with the railways, the train drivers’ union GDL wants to paralyze large parts of passenger rail transport for about six days from Wednesday 2 a.m. The freight transport strike starts on Tuesday evening. (sda/awp/dpa)
