The protest was caused by revelations from the Correctiv research center. It reported on a meeting of right-wing extremists in Potsdam on November 25, 2023, in which AfD politicians as well as individual members of the CDU and the very conservative Values Union participated. The former head of Austria’s right-wing extremist Identitarian movement, Martin Sellner, said he was talking about “remigration”. Right-wing extremists usually mean that a large number of people of foreign origin must leave the country – also under duress.
The revelation caused widespread outrage. For this reason, hundreds of thousands of people in Germany set an example for cohesion and tolerance in society this weekend.
