The hearing is scheduled for Feb. 28, the Republican chairmen of the chamber’s Audit and Judiciary Committee announced Thursday. Hunter Biden had previously opposed the subpoena for such an interview. He argued that his testimony could be selectively reproduced and manipulated behind closed doors by Republicans. He therefore insisted on testifying only in public. Several committee members wanted to take him to court for contempt of Congress.

The company of Hunter Biden, who has to answer for possible tax crimes, among other things, is repeatedly linked to his father. Republicans in the House of Representatives are continuing their investigation into possible impeachment proceedings against Joe Biden. They accuse the Democratic president of abusing his public office for his family’s financial gain. However, they have not yet provided clear evidence of serious misconduct. The question is whether the investigation can actually lead to impeachment proceedings. Joe Biden wants to run for a second term in the US elections in November.

Biden’s son sparked outrage last week with a surprise appearance at a public meeting of the audit committee. He appeared without notice during opening remarks at a public meeting of the panel and took a front row seat with his lawyer. Several Republicans felt provoked by Hunter Biden’s actions, and two lawmakers called him a coward. The chairman of the committee sometimes had difficulty restoring order in the meeting.
