Once the passengers have been greeted, the food has been served and peace slowly returns, the flight attendants high above the clouds also allow themselves some rest – at least some of them. Former flight attendant Svenja Hoffmann announced this to the broadcaster RTL.
Hoffmann, who worked for a German airline, reveals the hidden rest areas on the plane.
“Yes, you read that right”
“For example, don’t you sometimes wonder what the crew actually does when they don’t take care of you?” writes the former flight attendant.
Especially on long-haul flights, there are flight phases in which the flight crew withdraw. This usually happens after the first meal has been served and cleared away.
The crew uses special sleeping quarters for the crew. ‘Yes, you read that right. There are actually sleeping areas on board long-haul aircraft – so-called crew rests,” Hoffmann writes.
Depending on the machine, these rooms would be located below or above the passengers. The beds can be presented as bunk beds and have curtains.
Half the crew is resting
So while one half takes a break, the rest of the team kept watch in the locker room. After half the time there is an exchange. The second service is then completed before the aircraft lands at the destination airport.
As the ex-stewardess reports, a change takes place before the passengers are served the second snack. (dzc)
