While searching for a missing private plane carrying five German passengers off the coast of Costa Rica, emergency services found two dead. The bodies of an adult and a child were found in the sea, Teletica television reported Saturday, citing the Ministry of Public Security. Parts of the fuselage, seats and some pieces of luggage had previously been discovered about 28 kilometers from Limon Airport.
The Piaggio P.180 Avanti business jet went missing on Friday evening (local time) on its flight from Mexico to Costa Rica. The Ministry of Security announced that communications had been cut as the machine approached Limón airport by sea. After the search was called off overnight due to bad weather conditions, emergency services resumed this Saturday.
“There were five passengers and one pilot on the plane, a total of six people,” said Fernando Naranjo, director of the Civil Aviation Authority. “Based on the dates of birth, there were also two children.” The pilot is said to be a 66-year-old Swiss.
The plane disappeared from radar about 25 miles (about 40 km) in front of Limón airport. “The machine was supposed to land at 6:58 PM, we lost it at an altitude of 2,000 feet (about 610 meters),” said aviation director Naranjo. That’s about 600 meters. A command center was set up at Puerto Limón airport to coordinate the search.

According to information from “Bild,” the accident machine is the private jet of McFit founder Rainer Schaller, who was said to have been on board with his girlfriend Christiane Schikorsky, their two children and a man named Marcus Kurreck. A spokeswoman for the RSG Group, to which the fitness chain belongs, confirms this at the request of the medium. “We don’t know more at the moment,” it sounds.
“We are aware of the matter,” the Foreign Ministry in Berlin said. “Our embassy in San Jose is in contact with the local authorities to clarify the matter.”
Local media, who have the passenger list with the names of Schaller’s family, are now also making sure it’s the McFit founder’s machine. In addition, the aircraft must be registered in the name of RSG Aviation GmbH.
According to the online service Flightradar24, which shows aircraft positions in real time, the McFit founder’s machine had been descending since 11:15 p.m. (local time). About 40 minutes later it lost all altitude.
