Protests in Iran have been going on for weeks. The government is brutally cracking down on the protesters and several people have already been killed by police brutality. Nearly 80,000 people gathered in Berlin on Saturday to campaign against the suppression of protests in Iran.
There were significantly more participants than expected, a spokeswoman for the authorities said. The organizers initially assumed 50,000 people. Already at the beginning of the demonstration, thousands of people from many parts of Europe had gathered at the Berlin Victory Column. After the start, crowds of people flocked from all directions to the protest march. The protesters kept shouting, “Woman, life, freedom!”
The police spoke of a “mainly problem-free” course. At the start of the event, fireworks were lit, later insulated smoke pots were installed.
The demonstration in Berlin was registered by the “Woman* Life Freedom Collective”, which stands up to oppression and discrimination in Iran. Numerous organizations supported the call. Protests against the Islamic Republic and its authoritarian stance have not stopped for five weeks. (SDA)
