The German Bundeswehr is preparing for an armed conflict against Russia with the help of simulation games. As the newspaper ‘Bild’ reports, a German Defense Ministry exercise plan explores scenarios in which Russia could attack the West from next summer.
In the secret report, the German Ministry of Defense outlines in detail a possible “road to conflict” between Russia and NATO. Month after month, both Russian and Western actions are described. The secret Bundeswehr document, ‘Collective Defense 2025’, states that the conflict could start as early as February 2024.

Russia is planning an offensive in Ukraine
The German Defense Ministry declined to comment on the leaked classified information. Exactly this: “In principle, I can tell you that considering different scenarios – even if they are extremely unlikely – is part of daily military affairs, especially during training,” a ministry spokesperson told the newspaper “Bild” .
An open conflict with NATO is also officially not a problem in Russia. Russian President Vladimir Putin is still fully focused on the war in Ukraine: according to the Institute of War (ISW), Russia is planning a new major offensive in a few days. Citing Russian sources, the experts report that the attack should begin as soon as the currently muddy ground is frozen and therefore passable. This should be the case between January 12 and February 2.

According to the analysis, the offensive should focus on the Avdiivka and Kherson areas. However, the ISW experts do not assume that the Russian troops will achieve major successes. (pre)
