The Austrian pilot was killed when an ultralight aircraft crashed in Thailand. His companion from Germany was seriously injured in the accident, Thai media reported, citing eyewitnesses and rescuers. The 51-year-old suffered serious fractures to both ankles and was in shock, writes the Pattaya Mail newspaper.

The crash occurred on Saturday in a field near the seaside resort of Pattaya. It was said that a 64-year-old shepherd rushed to the wreckage and pulled the German from the burning rubble. Other residents also helped with the rescue. Emergency physicians arrived on the scene and provided first aid before the man was taken to hospital.

The 50-year-old pilot probably wanted to make an emergency landing in a field, the newspaper ‘The Nation’ reported. The small white plane collided with a tamarind tree. The completely destroyed wreckage was seen in photos circulated on the Internet. Authorities began an investigation into the cause of the accident. (SDA)
