In Mexico, bullfights are taking place in the largest bullring in the world for the first time since the lifting of a court ban. The so-called ‘Fiesta Brava’, as the bullfighting event is called in Spanish, will return to the Plaza México in the capital Mexico City from January 28 after a break of almost 600 days, the operator announced on Thursday.

In June 2022, animal rights activists managed to temporarily stop the bullfights in the Mexican capital in court. However, the Supreme Court quashed the suspension. Opponents of bullfighting denounce the suffering and killing of animals. The Plaza México has over 41,000 seats; However, the world-famous Las Ventas arena in Madrid only offers space for just under 24,000 spectators. (yam/sda/dpa)
