Man and woman found dead: helicopter crashes in the Mediterranean Sea near Cannes

A helicopter carrying two people crashed into the Mediterranean Sea near Cannes in southern France around 4 p.m. About 40 rescuers were working not far from the beach of Mandelieu-La Napoule, the town’s mayor said on Thursday. Around 6:30 p.m., divers were able to find the helicopter wreckage and two dead passengers at a depth of about 100 feet. According to local media, the victims are a 35-year-old female pilot and a 27-year-old man.

The rescuers were alerted by several people who had seen the accident. According to “Le Parisien” this would have happened only about 300 meters from the beach. Cannes Airport is located in Mandelieu-La Napoule, from where many private jets and helicopters take off. It was initially unknown for what purpose the accident helicopter was traveling. (SDA)
