The origin of the drama: a circular saw injury to the hand. The widow’s sister opened a donation page with this photo.

The following case shows how quickly a hand injury can destroy the life of a happy family: A father (†48) from Winsen (D) died after a cut on his hand.

Shortly before Christmas, Frank H.* injured himself while cutting wood with a circular saw. The deep cut only stops bleeding in the evening. That’s why his wife (34) accompanies him to the emergency room.

When registering, the couple must report any allergies H. may have. They write that the 48-year-old is allergic to the antibiotics penicillin and amoxicillin.

“We still talked”

The patient is then led by a nurse to a treatment room and cared for there. In the meantime, his wife has to wait outside.

“We still talked,” the woman told RTL. The doctors then give the man an IV to prevent inflammation. But suddenly Frank H. stops breathing. Her husband immediately noticed that something was wrong. “He was full of fear,” the 34-year-old continues.

She immediately tried to seek help, but the doctors only came on the second attempt.

“That was the worst moment of my life”

A real torture begins for the woman. Only that evening did she know for sure: Frank H. had to be resuscitated. He was put into an induced coma and has virtually no brain activity. “That was the worst moment of my life.” Less than 24 hours after admission to hospital, Stefanie H. has to make the difficult decision to stop life-prolonging measures. He leaves behind four children, ages 4 to 16.

The widow’s sister has set up a donation page on Gofundme.com. There you can support the young family financially. The goal: 75,000 euros. Because: H. was the sole earner in the family. She is hoping for donations to help pay for funeral costs. Nearly 50,000 euros have now been raised.

“It feels so wrong,” the grieving widow says to RTL. Still, she doesn’t want to give up. “We’re trying to get our lives under control.” The Hanover Public Prosecution Service has started an investigation into the exact cause of death. (An)
