In Saxony-Anhalt, Germany, passers-by made a gruesome discovery on Tuesday evening: they found an elderly woman (†88), whose body had several dog bites, lying motionless on the ground in temperatures below freezing.

As a spokeswoman for the Halberstadt police announced, the elderly woman was found on private property. She was then taken to a hospital, where she died.

It is also said that the dog owner whose dog probably gave the woman the bites is known to the police. Officials are now investigating suspicions of negligent homicide. It is still unclear whether the woman died from the bites or from hypothermia. (AFP/dzc)
