The New York state representative is a promising candidate for vice president – and an unscrupulous opportunist.

When you ask about typical female Trump groupies in the US Congress, the names Marjorie Taylor Greene and Lauren Boebert usually come up. Greene made his name with conspiracy theories (Jewish laser cannons caused the California wildfires from space) and an appearance in a tacky white coat with a fur collar during the president’s “State of the Union” address. Meanwhile, Boebert likes to pose with an AR-15 rifle over her shoulder and makes headlines for letting her new boyfriend grope her in public.

Greene and Boebert are typical representatives of a class that is disrespectfully called “white trash.” This is the name given to Americans who have little education, earn little, live in trailers in trailer parks and are said to have an IQ less than their shoe number.

epa10441355 Georgia Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R) responds to a question from the news media as she departs a Republican caucus meeting at the U.S. Capitol in Washington…

Elise Stefanik boxes in a completely different weight class. She comes from a good family and an upscale, conservative neighborhood in upstate New York. She holds a law degree from the prestigious Harvard University. The now 39-year-old made her political mark in the administration of George W. Bush and was actually considered a moderate Republican. For a long time, she had nothing but contempt for Donald Trump, especially after the Access Hollywood tapes became public. In it, the ex-president famously boasts that he can reach between women’s legs as a star.

Stefanik is now “ultra-MAGA, and proud” of it, as she explains. She defends Trump through thick and thin, repeats his Big Lie at every possible and impossible opportunity, just like her idol, describes the convicted slobs of January 6, 2021 as “hostages” and speaks of the Bidens as a “criminal family.” Unlike Greene and Boebert, she does this with rhetorical skill and dressed in designer clothes.

Elise Stefanik’s transformation from Trump despiser to Trump groupie began with the ex-president’s first impeachment. At the time, the trained lawyer was noticed during the hearings as a smart interrogator, not only by the TV audience, but especially by Trump. The party has “a new star,” the ex-president tweeted enthusiastically.

Trump’s praise fell on fertile ground. The young backbencher quickly became a woman whose voice carries weight within the Grand Old Party (GOP). When Liz Cheney, unlike the vast majority of Republicans, discovered her conscience and welcomed a second impeachment of Trump after the storm on the Capitol, Stefanik seized her opportunity and removed the ex-vice president’s now ousted daughter as leader of the Republican faction. the House of Representatives.

This made Stefanik a fixture on Fox News, but he also enjoys appearing on Steve Bannon and his podcast. However, her most successful performance to date was again during a hearing in the House of Representatives. A few weeks ago, three presidents of elite universities were held accountable for their conduct in the face of anti-Israel protests on their campuses.

Stefanik managed to corner the three so cleverly that they made unflattering statements, to say the least. The video of this interrogation went viral and two of the presidents were forced to resign. Much to Stefanik’s delight. “I always deliver results,” she boasted after the deed.

Stefanik is now being seriously considered as a candidate for Trump’s running mate. When asked about it, she acts like a teenager in love. In fact, she has the best chance of coming to power: she is extremely smart, unconditionally loyal to Trump and free of moral scruples. Margaret Hoover, a TV host who once worked with Stefanik in the White House, described her in the New York Times as “totally ambitious and completely unscrupulous.”

The Trump/Stefanik duo – if it actually emerged – would pose a serious threat to Biden/Harris. This now also worries Democrats. The Washington Post reports that Barack Obama visited his former deputy in the White House and urged him to change his strategy.

Obama’s words of warning have had an impact. During his first campaign appearance last Friday, Joe Biden took off his kid gloves and attacked Trump head-on for the first time. The ex-president is a danger to democracy and does not have the well-being of Americans in mind, but is only looking for ‘revenge and retaliation’, according to Biden.

The liberal media is also waking up. The New York Times, in its first editorial of the new year, strikes the same tone as the president. “A re-election of Trump would pose a serious danger not only to our republic, but to the entire world,” warns the newspaper, considered the best in the world. ‘This is not the time to sit it out. We have to participate.”
