Two people were killed in an avalanche accident in the Italian Alps on Sunday. The avalanche occurred in the morning near the Swiss border in Val Formazza in the Verbano-Cusio-Ossola region.

According to a report by the Italian news agency Ansa, the two had been on a ski tour. Rescuers pulled a dead person out of the snow. Another victim was found at Lago di Toggia, about 2,200 meters above sea level.

According to Ansa, the recovery of the body from the water was underway on Sunday afternoon. The work was said to be difficult due to bad weather. Italian authorities initially provided no information about the identities of the two dead. (SDA)
