Iran has reported further arrests following Wednesday’s devastating terrorist attack. 32 people have been arrested in connection with the double suicide bombing in Kerman, state news agency Irna reported on Sunday, citing the provincial prosecutor’s office.

The terrorist militia Islamic State (IS) has claimed responsibility for the attack. In recent months, 23 suspected IS members have been arrested and more than 60 bombs have been found. On Friday, the Iranian secret service reported arrests.

In Wednesday’s attack, two assailants killed more than 90 people and injured about 280 others. The attack targeted a memorial event marking the anniversary of General Ghassem Soleimani’s death in his hometown. It was the deadliest attack in the Islamic Republic’s 45-year history.

The Sunni IS views Iran’s majority Shia population as apostates from Islam and despises them. A regional branch of IS is active in neighboring Afghanistan. (sda/dpa)
