The two trains collided at low speed.

The incident happened Thursday near the 96 Street station in Manhattan’s Upper West Side, police said. An empty train collided with a line 1 train. According to initial findings, the trains collided at low speed during afternoon traffic, causing no serious injuries to anyone.

Subway service on Red Lines 1, 2 and 3 between the southern and northern points of Manhattan was then partially suspended. According to the emergency services, several trains with around 300 to 500 passengers had to be evacuated.

This caused a train to derail

The New York transportation authority MTA said one of the trains derailed as a result of the shaft collision: “Emergency teams are supporting passengers and conducting an investigation.” According to media reports, parts of Broadway were closed to facilitate access for emergency services.

The New York subway is considered the lifeblood of the metropolis. With more than 1,000 kilometers of track, more than 470 stations and 36 lines, it is not only one of the largest but also one of the oldest metro lines in the world. Since its opening in 1904, the New York City Subway has become an indispensable part of daily life in the city. It transports millions at all times of the day and connects the vast metropolis.

The background to the incident initially remained unclear. According to initial findings, the trains were not defective. Emergency services on the scene said human error was believed to be the cause.
