Tatyana R. lived a lavish lifestyle.

Tatyana R.* (43) pleaded guilty in court: The American dressage rider ordered an acquaintance to kill her husband. In return, she offered him $2 million. The court has now sentenced her to more than three years in prison.

It all started over twelve years ago. In 2011, the American married the wealthy Mark R. He brought an inheritance of $25 million into the marriage. The couple lived a luxurious life in California and moved in wealthy circles. The two owned several sports cars, luxury villas, boats and animals. In Facebook photos, R. poses with a Lamborghini or posts photos of her beach villa.

But money also led to strife in the couple’s relationship: R’s business idea for a glamorous horse show in San Diego failed. After just a few shows, performances were canceled, leaving cast and crew members empty-handed. The couple separated in May, but not on good terms.

$15,000 for living expenses wasn’t enough

The divorce ended in court. R. accused her husband of raping her while threatening her with a gun. He in turn claimed that she had set fire to one of his houses. As the New York Post writes, there were also disputes over livelihoods. R’s lawyers allegedly denied living expenses of $15,000 per month. A court document states that “the woman is suffering from extreme financial stress.” After all, she is used to monthly expenses of $50,000.

In August 2023, the handcuffs clicked at Starbucks and R. was arrested. The acquaintance had revealed to her husband that she wanted to pay him for his murder. The man then alerted the police. An undercover investigator found R.’s deposit from an acquaintance and three firearms.

R’s mother testified in court that she had a bad childhood. The woman was allegedly sexually abused by a family member as a girl and had little access to education. The American confessed in court that she had ordered her acquaintance to carry out the murder. The court sentenced her to three years and eight months in prison. (jwg)
