One of two devastating explosions in Iran was caused by a suicide bomber, according to a state media report.

This is evident, among other things, from the evaluation of video surveillance, the state news agency Irna reported to Telegram on Thursday, citing an unnamed source from the city of Kerman. The background to the second explosion has not yet been fully clarified. It is also suspected that it was a suicide attack.

On the fourth anniversary of the death of powerful Iranian general Ghassem Soleimani, more than 80 people were killed Wednesday in two massive explosions in his hometown of Kerman, near the grave. The Iranian government called it a terrorist attack. Initially, no group claimed responsibility for the alleged attack.

The EU condemned the attack as an act of terror. It was the deadliest attack in the Islamic Republic’s 45-year history. Many questions remain unanswered. (sda/dpa)
