The reason for the explosion: A man in his mid-twenties had loaded 75 kilos of fireworks. As he smoked a cigarette, the embers spread to the items he had purchased. Fortunately, the driver and passenger suffered only minor injuries. The two friends had crossed the border into Germany to get fireworks.

Car turns into fireworks

“We bought fireworks in Germany and smoked them in the car a few kilometers from home. I think it was me who threw the cigarette outside. But then the stump flew back in and ended up where the fireworks were,” the Dutchman told the newspaper “Hart van Nederland.”

After all, his car was one big firework. The driver was reportedly briefly treated in hospital for burns. According to media reports, the passenger was unharmed. According to RTL Nieuws, he drove back to Germany the next day to buy supplies for the fireworks that had already been set off. (An)
