“Strong waves and life-threatening rip currents pose an exceptional risk of drowning at sea and damage to coastal structures.” Waves up to nine meters high were expected in parts of the American states of California and Oregon as a result of a violent storm.
In Ventura County, north of the Los Angeles metropolitan area, a wave had already destroyed several pedestrian walkways on Thursday. Video footage showed the wave washing over a seawall in the city of Ventura, knocking some people off their feet. “Due to this wave, eight people were taken to local hospitals,” the local fire brigade wrote in the online networks.
According to the forecast, high surf was expected along the entire coast. There was a risk of flooding until Saturday evening.
