Andreas P.* from Muldestausee (D) is said to have mixed parts of the blue monkshood plant into his wife’s food on April 29. The plant contains the active substance Acontin – and is said to kill his wife Marlen P. (†63).
“Because the dose did not have a fatal effect, on the morning of April 30 he again mixed a presumably larger amount with yogurt, which the injured party consumed without knowing it,” the newspaper “Bild” quoted a police spokesperson. The Dessau Regional Court says that Rosslau.
“In memory of your husband”
A day later, the 63-year-old died in a clinic – according to an expert ‘most likely’ from aconitine poisoning. Because the blue monkshood is one of the most poisonous plants of all: just two grams of the root can be fatal. Symptoms include paralysis, visual disturbances, cardiac arrhythmias and even complete collapse.
After Marlen P.’s death, her husband played the grieving widower. “You had a good heart, now it rests peacefully, but not forgotten… In loving memory, your husband Andreas,” he wrote in an obituary.
A few months later, Andreas P. was unmasked. He was arrested in September after a search of his home. The Public Prosecution Service has reported attempted and completed murder. The motive: another woman – his lover.
Affair knew about a murder plan
The alleged murderer’s 58-year affair will also become a legal case. This was the result of an attempted coercion and failure to report a planned crime, as the court spokesperson explained according to the newspaper ‘Bild’.
Accordingly, the secret lover would have given the married man a choice. According to the public prosecutor, this prompted him to kill his wife. Although the suspect was aware of this, she did nothing about it.
Why didn’t Andreas P. just divorce? According to the Public Prosecution Service, he wanted to avoid the maintenance obligation in the event of a divorce. The Public Prosecution Service therefore assumes that he murdered his wife not only treacherously, but also for base motives. (gs)
