Dog Rose was missing for seven years, but has now reappeared near the English village of Crawley Down. This is reported by various American and British media, citing “Lost Dog Recovery UK South”.
The organization writes that Rose has been wandering around the town for years – one resident even estimated that it has been ten years. Not quite: according to the animal welfare organization that found Rose with Crawley Don, the dog has been missing since early 2017. She disappeared less than 24 hours after her then-new owners claimed her.
Warm chicken in the cage
To keep Rose safe, the animal rights activists used a trick: after local residents reported the stray, she was fed regularly for a week. On the eighth day, the warm chicken was then placed in a cage.
As Rose started her dinner, the door closed behind her. “She was understandably scared, but remained friendly,” the animal rights activists wrote on Facebook.
The family doesn’t want to take Rose back
The dog was chipped. It soon became clear what the animal’s name was, who its owners were – and when it disappeared. They are ‘overjoyed’ that she is doing well and is safe, but sad because they can no longer take the dog into their home. The family’s living conditions have changed too much in recent years.
Nevertheless, Rose’s situation is good, the animal rescuers explain on Facebook: “She no longer has to spend her older years fighting for herself.” Rose is currently being cared for in a shelter in the small English town of Edenbridge.
Rose has many requests
We also received many questions from people who would like to take Rose into their home. Anyone interested in the dog can contact the organization “Last Chance Animal Rescue”.
“We know many will be disappointed, but Rose can only have one family,” the animal rescuers wrote. If you want to care for the dog, but are turned away, you can go to an animal shelter in your area. “Animal rescue in Britain is under enormous pressure. The animals need someone to take care of them.”
