American Kelsey Hatcher (32) was born with two uteruses and became pregnant twice last spring.

Even the doctors were surprised: when American Kelsey Hatcher (32) from Alabama showed up with her husband for her first ultrasound appointment, the doctors discovered not only that Hatcher was pregnant with twins, but also that she had two uteruses, each with a cervix .

This extremely rare medical phenomenon is called “Uterus Didelphys”. It affects an estimated 0.3 percent of all women worldwide. What borders on a miracle, however, is that Hatcher had an egg implanted in both uteruses at the same time. The odds of this happening are an incredible 1 in 50 million!

Delivered with two caesarean sections

Now the children are born. “Our miracle babies are born!” Hatcher reports on Instagram. “Roxi Layla was born on Tuesday evening at 7.49 pm, her sister Rebel Laken joined her on Wednesday morning at 6.09 am.” The two girls were born by two caesarean sections. Hatcher, now the mother of five children, apparently wants to reveal further details about the birth at a later date, Spiegel reports.

According to Hatcher’s gynecologist’s calculations, the babies should have been born in time for Christmas. Now the offspring can spend their first Christmas at home: Hatcher and her newborns have already been released from University Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama. (ced)
