Summer, sun, sunshine – this is what the guests of the MSC Meraviglia were looking forward to. Last Saturday they boarded the cruise ship of the Swiss shipping company. The destination: the Caribbean.
But as soon as they took off, certain passengers experienced their blue miracle. Instead of going to the Caribbean paradise, the Swiss cruise ship suddenly found itself in the Canadian cold.
Unbelievable: Certain passengers were apparently not even informed about the route change. This is what ‘T-Online’ writes, citing a user on the social media platform Reddit who posted about the cruise debacle.
Information was not even given 24 hours before departure
Those who were aware of the change of destination were informed less than 24 hours before departure from New York. This also applies to the Reddit user who suddenly received an email with “an important update” about his trip. “We have significantly changed the itinerary of your cruise due to expected inclement weather in Florida and the Bahamas,” the report said.
The reason for this is the high wind speeds, which would make the maneuvers unsafe. Instead of the Caribbean islands, Boston, Portland and St. John, Canada, are now on the program.
After all: as the message goes on to say, passengers who do not want to take the cruise will receive their money back in the form of an MSC Cruises voucher.
“Something like this has never happened to me before”
Still, the change is causing great dissatisfaction among some passengers. “We built our plans entirely around this cruise,” one traveler wrote on Reddit. Many have already arrived – with shorts and sunscreen. Another wrote: “In my thirty years of cruising, nothing like this has ever happened to me.”
Out of nowhere, passengers from Europe were especially affected – as “T-Online” reported, citing a German tourist, all passengers from Europe were probably not informed by MSC. “We found out when we got to the ship and wanted to board it. By then it was already too late,” she says on stage.
Passengers drink during the debacle
She wanted to snorkel and lie on the beach. The fact that all her plans have now failed is a bitter disappointment for the Germans. “The only reason I flew to New York City was because of the travel.”
In terms of clothing, she is also not at all equipped for low temperatures. So she only packed summer dresses, skirts and bikinis. “Now I’m on board in Boston and can’t even go outside because it’s five degrees.”
According to the report, almost half of passengers have apparently already used the option to cancel their trip. Apparently only 2,800 of the 5,400 guests were on board.
