Two men from Switzerland, who allegedly wanted to illegally buy explosives in Germany, are now being extradited to their home country. The public prosecutor’s office in Stuttgart, the state investigation department in Baden-Württemberg and the Swiss federal prosecutor’s office announced this on Thursday.
The Swiss authorities have requested the extradition of the duo. It was approved by the German side. The suspects have been under investigation since early June on suspicion of conspiracy to commit an explosive crime. The procedure is likely to be transferred to Switzerland.
Researchers do not assume a political background
Baden-Württemberg detectives arrested the men, who were aged 24 and 26 in June. They’ve been stuck ever since. The previous evidence suggested the men intended to use the explosives “presumably in a planned crime in a major Swiss city,” the State Bureau of Investigation said at the time. A political background can probably be ruled out.
A spokesperson for the National Criminal Investigation Department did not want to give any further details when asked on Thursday. The authorities were tracked down through a tip and through investigations in the so-called Darknet, a hidden and anonymous part of the internet. They say they encountered a user who wanted to buy explosives, among other things. (SDA)
