It could have ended less well: a woman (73) was accidentally left behind by her family on Sunday evening at a rest stop on the A96 highway near the southern German town of Wiedergeltingen.
According to police, the elderly woman, her brother (67) and his wife took a break in the parking lot during the trip from Bosnia to Switzerland. The woman went to the toilet. When she returned, she was shocked to find the car missing along with her relatives. Finally, a man called the police about a “distressed elderly lady without a coat.”
Reunion at the police station
The brother would simply not have noticed that his sister was no longer in the car. It was only shortly before Zurich that the couple noticed that she was not in the vehicle.
The reunion took place at the police station. The couple had previously driven four hours back to Wiedergeltingen. The family then continued the journey together.
Child forgotten at a rest stop along the highway
A similar case involving a forgotten prisoner occurred in the south of France in 2015. On the way to the sea, parents left their daughter (3) at a rest stop along the highway. Concerned travelers alerted the police.
It was only when they heard the search message on the radio that the parents realized their mistake. At this point they were already 90 miles from the rest stop. In this case too, the reunion took place at a police station. (no)
