In November 2022 and July 2023, ‘last generation’ climate adhesives caused problems at German airports. Their occupation of the tarmacs in Hamburg, Berlin-Brandenburg and Düsseldorf affected a total of 116 flights and 16,500 passengers of the Lufthansa Group, to which Swiss also belongs.
The company has now calculated the damage. She now presents the climate stickers with the bill for flight cancellations, delays and diverted flights. According to information from the newspaper ‘Bild’, the airline Eurowings is demanding 740,000 euros for all Lufthansa subsidiaries.
The invoice was personally delivered to the climate stickers. No one has paid yet, some have contacted lawyers.
The punishment should be stricter
Transport Minister Volker Wissing (53, FDP) welcomes Lufthansa’s claim for compensation. He told ‘Bild’: ‘Blockades of airports with the aim of disrupting operations there far exceed the limits of legitimate protest. These are not small crimes either. People are potentially at risk and great economic damage is being caused.” The federal government is working to tighten criminal law. (GF)
