The security situation in the Red Sea is precarious. After several attacks on cargo ships from Yemen, a container ship from the German shipping company Hapag-Lloyd is now under fire. The shipping company confirmed this to Spiegel.
“We know the ship was hit and damaged from a Houthi-controlled area in Yemen, and that a fire was reported,” U.S. officials said. Washington has recently repeatedly warned the Houthi rebels not to attack cargo ships.
Container went overboard
The private intelligence company Ambrey also confirmed the attack. The projectile reportedly struck the port side of the ship and a container fell overboard as a result of the impact, Ambrey said.
The British military authority United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations called on ships in the region to be vigilant. There were no casualties. (An)
