The young journalist Anna Tsareva, close to the Kremlin, dies under mysterious circumstances. Her death is not the first incident in Komsomolskaya Pravda.

Russian journalist Anna Zarjowa is dead, the Daily Mail and Bild newspapers report, citing the Russian news agency Tass. However, the circumstances of her death are mysterious.

Before her death, the 35-year-old was deputy head of the pro-Kremlin newspaper Komsomolskaya Pravda, considered one of Vladimir Putin’s favorite newspapers, for six years. It is also the most widely circulated newspaper in the country.

Father discovered the body

Tsareva is said to have been responsible for Komsomolskaya Pravda’s online presence. The website reached almost 84 million readers in October and reports on, among other things, the war in Ukraine.

There are no indications of a burglary in her apartment, Russian media report. Moreover, there is nothing to indicate that the young woman died violently. Tsareva’s body was discovered by her father after he had not heard from his daughter for days.

Tsareva’s boss also died under mysterious circumstances

She reportedly complained of a respiratory illness and had a high fever a few days before her death. The authorities are currently assuming a “sudden cardiac arrest”.

Tsareva’s mysterious death is not the first of its kind at Komsomolskaya Pravda: Vladimir Sungorkin, the newspaper’s then 68-year-old editor-in-chief, died in September 2022.

Uncertainty about the cause of death

At the time, his death was also officially declared as heart failure. However, investigators found marks on the body indicating that Sungorkin had been suffocated. A doctor who examined Sungorkin immediately after his death also spoke of a possible stroke.

Shortly before his death, the editor-in-chief fainted while traveling with colleagues. A colleague said of the incident: “Wladimir suddenly started gasping for air. We took him to fresh air, but he was already unconscious. Nothing helped.”
