On the sidelines of his visit to Argentina, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy spoke with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban about Ukraine’s ambition to become a member of the EU. Orbán made it clear to Zelensky that EU members were “constantly negotiating with each other” about Ukraine’s accession, his spokesman Bertalan Havasi said on Sunday.
Zelenskiy said in his nightly video address that he spoke with Orban as “openly as possible” about Ukraine’s European affairs. The Ukrainian media spoke of an “emotional conversation”. Orban had recently threatened to block Kiev’s hopes for an early start to membership negotiations with the European Union.
During his working visit to Buenos Aires for the inauguration of the new Argentine head of state Javier Milei, Zelensky met several South American heads of state and explored the possibilities for a summit between Ukraine and Latin America. Zelenskiy is expected in Washington on Tuesday by US President Joe Biden. (SDA)
