Henry Kissinger visited the People’s Republic of China as US National Security Advisor in October 1971. The explosive thing is that the trip was initially secret because the two countries had no diplomatic relations at the time.

Also the now canonized Pope Paul VI. met Henry Kissinger on July 14, 1974 in Rome.
Two Fighters Against Communism: Pope John Paul II also met Kissinger for a private audience at the Vatican in 1979. At that time, he was no longer Secretary of State, but instead director of the Council on Foreign Relations think tank.
