“My brother said he lives nearby”: Chico was shocked when he arrived at the scene of the fire (archive).

An arsonist causes disaster in Dortmund. Investigators suspect he has struck more than ten times. On Friday evening it hit two houses of the well-known lottery millionaire Kürsat Y. (43), nickname Chico. The German had purchased several properties as a safe investment. Two of them have now been damaged by fire.

‘I found out this morning. My brother said he lives nearby,” Chico told “Bild”. The 43-year-old immediately rushed to the scene. Police and fire brigade were already present there. ‘I was shocked when I saw that. Fortunately, no one happened.”

Four people receiving medical treatment

The residents were able to get to safety in time. About seventy firefighters managed to control the flames and prevent other houses from catching fire. However, the roofs of both houses burned out.

According to the fire brigade, 23 people had to leave their homes or be evacuated. Four people required medical treatment for suspected smoke poisoning.

Support for researchers

It is not yet possible to say how extensive the damage is, according to Chico. “But probably all the apartments remained intact, only the roof and basement were severely damaged.”

The police have formed an investigation team to catch the fire devil. Officers review evidence and interview residents and witnesses. Chico supports the researchers as best he can: “I know everyone in the area. I immediately asked my friends if they had any video recordings of the perpetrator. Many stores here have surveillance cameras.” (no)
