A German court has classified the group ‘The Last Generation’ as a criminal organization.

They stick to the street, block the path and flood buildings: a German court has declared the ‘Last Generation’ group as criminal in a legally binding decision. This is explosive. Because: From now on, no legal remedies can be used against this decision.

According to the regional court, the road and airport blockades should not be regarded as insignificant by climate activists. It comes to the conclusion that the ‘Last Generation’ meets the requirements of a criminal organization.

Crimes “expression of criminal energy”

The group represents a long-term collaboration, reports the German Bild. According to the court, to be classified as a criminal organization, “committing crimes may not be the main goal”.

It is enough if crimes are one of many purposes. In the case of the ‘Last Generation’ these were: coercion of road users and material damage. According to the court, these acts “constitute a significant threat to public safety.”

Crimes are not a tool in a democratic discussion, but rather an “expression of criminal energy”. Ten complaints from climate activists against searches and seizures, approved by the Munich court, were rejected as “unfounded”. (An)
