«I haven’t spent eight hours of my day at work for 50 years! “I’m going crazy,” complains Lilli Scheefeld (21) from Bremen on Tiktok in a video that goes viral. She belongs to Generation Z, that is, people born between 1995 and 2010. And young professionals are currently complaining a lot about the work culture.
“I go to work, then I come home, then I do my housework, then I cook something for myself and then I have an hour before I go to sleep,” says Scheefeld. And: “It cannot be that we are born to grow up, work for 50 years and then grow old and die – no Digga, I certainly won’t do that!”
Lilli is currently training to become an anesthesia nurse. She is in her second year of training and lives alone in a 75 square meter apartment. “Many people only work for the money,” she said in an interview with Stern in mid-November. “Maybe I have high expectations or a high standard of living for many people,” the intern said. But: “I just think you should do what you want with your life.”
Wants to work for your own goals
The young professional criticizes: “We have a shortage of skilled workers and I notice in my industry that we have to compensate for that.” That has nothing to do with laziness. “It’s not that I don’t want to work eight hours,” she clarifies. But: “The point is that I want to work eight hours for myself. I want to use this time to work on my goals and dreams,” she says. Scheefeld feels that many people misunderstood what she said in her video.
The goal of the woman from Bremen: to build something for herself. The influencer has 11,900 followers on Tiktok. And she regularly posts content on how to generate passive income through social media. However, it is unclear whether the influencer can save himself the work of the next 50 years or whether the video is more of a marketing move. (jwg)
