A “strong police presence” prevented a “possible confrontation” between members of the child’s mother’s family and the suspect.

According to police information on Tuesday, the young woman took the girl to a hospital room on Monday evening, but about an hour and a half later, accompanied by relatives, returned to the clinic and returned the child. At the time, a major police manhunt was underway with more than twenty patrol cars.

Police arrested the 18-year-old after her return to the hospital in the Heimfeld district, after which a doctor temporarily admitted the suspect to a psychiatric clinic. The kidnapped child was “apparently unharmed,” police said. However, as a precaution, he was taken to hospital for medical care. The child’s parents should have been cared for by a crisis intervention team.

The suspect took the baby to the emergency room

According to investigators’ previous findings, the 18-year-old entered the 32-year-old mother’s room at the hospital and lured her out of the room “under a pretext.” When the mother returned shortly afterwards, the woman and her baby were gone. The police immediately began searching and investigating. About an hour and a half later, the kidnapper returned with family members and handed the child over to emergency room staff.

According to police, during the alleged kidnapping, about 40 relatives of the child’s mother and the suspect’s families gathered in front of the clinic in a heated mood. It said a “possible confrontation” was prevented by a “strong police presence”. After emergency services issued several evictions, the situation calmed down.
