A convicted murderer in Texas was executed by lethal injection at the Huntsville Correctional Facility in the US state of Texas on Thursday evening. 53-year-old David Renteria was sentenced to death for the murder of a five-year-old girl.
Prosecutors said Alexandra Flores, the youngest of eight children, was at an El Paso Walmart doing Christmas shopping on Nov. 18, 2001, when she was kidnapped from the store. Renteria strangled her and then burned her body, the lawsuit said. Her body was found the next day in an alley about 16 miles from the store.
Before his execution, Renteria prayed, sang and asked for forgiveness in a statement. “I apologize for all the mistakes I have made. And to those who called for my death and are about to kill me: I forgive you,” he said in the statement. He was pronounced dead eleven minutes after a strong sedative was administered. (t-online/aj)
