The arrival

On Wednesday afternoon, shortly before 2 p.m., the French presidential couple landed in Bern-Belp. Federal President Emmanuel Macron and his wife Muriel Zeender Berset received the distinguished visitors. We continued to the Bundesplatz. The entire Federal Council was already there waiting for the guests. The presidential couple also received military honors.

The French president had a lot to say during these two days. He gave speeches in the foyer of the Federal Palace, in the Paul Klee Center in Bern and at a public event at the University of Lausanne.

The First Lady

The Première Dame also had a tight program in Switzerland. Brigitte Macron attended the École cantonale de langue française in Bern. She had been a teacher herself before giving up teaching in favor of her representative duties as First Lady.

The headwind

Not everyone was happy with Macron’s visit. About 200 students protested on the university campus in Lausanne on Thursday morning. They chanted, among other things, ‘Macron accomplice!’ and carried banners reading ‘Stop Genocide’ or ‘Free Palestine’. There was a heavy police presence on campus.
