Sadness, anger, despair and now hope again. Thomas Hand cannot hold back his tears. A month ago his daughter was kidnapped by Hamas. The terrorist group launched an unprecedented major attack on Israel on October 7. According to Israeli information, approximately 1,400 people were killed and at least 230 hostages were taken.

Thomas Hand’s daughter Emily, just eight years old, was reportedly among the dead. The girl was ripped from her bed in Kibbutz Be’eri while she was staying with a friend.

Little girl is lost even though she is saved

In the interview with CNN, he said that he was at least glad that Emily was not in the clutches of Hamas. But then the Israeli army contacted him. With the news that his daughter is still alive. She was not among the bodies and was probably held captive in a tunnel under the Gaza Strip. A shock for Thomas Hand.

“November 17 is her birthday. She will be nine years old and she won’t even know what day it is.” He doesn’t even want to imagine the conditions under which she is being held captive. He prays for her every day. But he is afraid that he has already lost his little girl because: “She won’t come back, none of the hostages will come back like before.”

He just wants to hold Emily in his arms

Qatari mediators are currently trying to reach an agreement between Israel and Hamas on the release of hostages. On Tuesday, US President Joe Biden (80) expressed cautious optimism that such an agreement would be reached. But he didn’t say anything more about it.

The waiting, the uncertainty exhausts him. He just wanted to hold Emily in his arms. That’s all he could think about right now. “In my head I see her running towards me and me running towards her, taking her in my arms and not letting go.” (ymh)
