According to British media, the controversial British Home Secretary Suella Braverman (43) has been fired by Prime Minister Rishi Sunak (43). The BBC and Sky News, among others, reported this on Monday, citing government sources.
The right-wing politician in Conservative Prime Minister Sunak’s cabinet has been causing a stir lately. She accused the police, among other things, of being blind in the left eye and of tolerating law violations by pro-Palestinian demonstrators.
In recent days she had described the demonstrators as a “pro-Palestinian mob”. And had accused this ‘pack’ and the ‘Islamists’ in their ranks of organizing real ‘hate marches’ through London that should be banned. She published the allegations in a guest article in the Times without consulting the government’s cabinet, as a spokesman for Sunak confirmed last week.
There was speculation that by criticizing the police and other right-wing populist statements, she wanted to position herself as a candidate for the right wing of the party and perhaps even deliberately ensure her expulsion. According to estimates, Braverman’s resignation will likely be accompanied by a major cabinet reshuffle. There was speculation that Secretary of State James Cleverly could take over her post. (SDA)
