A major operation has been going on in Brandenburg (D) for 24 hours. The reason: an armed man threatens to blow up a house in the village of Vieritz. He has been locked in the building since Friday afternoon and has placed booby traps, according to ‘Bild’. Police declined to comment. The village was closed off.
The background to the crime is a court ruling, at the proposal of the Youth Care Office, a police spokeswoman said this evening. Apparently it’s a custody dispute.
“I know the man, I live twenty meters away from him,” says a neighbor. “His partner broke up with him and took the children,” the neighbor said. ‘I didn’t close my eyes last night. There were police everywhere in the village. Around 12:30 I suddenly heard 20 to 30 shots! “It’s crazy!” the witness continues. Police confirm a shootout. There were no injuries.
The woman and child were able to escape
A woman and her child live in the house where the shooter is located. The two were able to leave the house around 1 a.m. A shot was fired. The child is currently in the care of youth care.
“Measures are being taken to catch him,” police director Christian Hylla told the “Märkische Allgemeine”. A special operations team with an armored vehicle is on site. (jwg)
