Ecuador rules out the ‘exodus’ of Venezuelans from Peru

Government of Ecuador This Thursday, he rescinded his motion to create, along with Colombia And “humanitarian corridor” for Venezuelans expelled from Peru finally concluding that the probability of producing a migration exodus from a neighboring country is “low”.

This was stated by the Deputy Minister of Citizen Security, Sandra Molinaafter Interior Minister Juan Zapata announced hours earlier that he would propose to Colombia’s Minister of National Defense Iván Velásquez the creation of this “humanitarian corridor” to transfer Venezuelans expelled from Peru to their country of origin.

This concern related to the culmination this Friday of the deadline set by the government of Peru for the legalization of foreigners who are in the country and the warnings of the Peruvian authorities about the possibility of deportation of those who have not completed the procedure after that date.

Zapata commented this Thursday morning that he Peru Migration Authority estimates that they will be expelled in between 5,000 and 6,000 peoplemostly of Venezuelan nationality.

However, a few hours later, Molina clarified in another statement from the MUP that “after analyzing the report, it was determined that it is not necessary to activate the mentioned corridors at the moment”.

The deputy minister emphasized that “this alternative is not among the solutions for today”, but he warned that the Ecuadorian government “will remain vigilant” and monitor the border areas so that, in case this happens, they will “determine protocols and actions to deal with this type of migration phenomenon.”

This after holding an inter-institutional meeting of delegates from the ministries Foreign Relations, Internal Affairs, Defence, State Secretariat for Public Security, Armed Forces, National Police and international organizations such as International Organization for Migration (IOM) and United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

Ecuador is also currently immersed in a new legalization process for migrants who have arrived in the country by June 3, 2022, and more than 250,000 Venezuelans are expected to join it.

From more than 7.7 million Venezuelans who have emigrated from their country in recent years, just over 4.9 million are in Colombia, Ecuador and Peru, according to the latest report by the Interagency Coordination Platform for Refugees and Migrants of Venezuela (R4V).

They are located in Colombia 2.89 million Venezuelansin Peru they exist 1.54 million and in Ecuador they are 475,000after leaving the country several times 25,000 during this year.

Ecuador’s concern over the possible expulsion of illegal aliens in Peru came days after Hernán David Landaeta “Satanás” was arrested in the southern border province of Loja, wanted by the Colombian judiciary and identified by authorities as a member “Aragua Train”the largest Venezuelan criminal groups.

Two months ago, Minister Zapata denied any signs of “Aragua Train” activity in Ecuador, as is apparently happening in neighboring countries.
