60 Stars of David appeared overnight in a Paris neighborhood.

The images that emerged in Paris on October 31 were shocking. 60 Stars of David suddenly appeared on walls. It was initially thought to be an anti-Semitic action. But now a new theory is emerging: Russia allegedly ordered the whole thing.

The Stars of David could be found on residential buildings, as well as on the walls of shops and banks in the 14th arrondissement of Paris. This was a reminder of the dark Nazi past. At that time, Jews were forced to wear a yellow Star of David, and this marking made deportation to concentration camps easier. Stars of David were also painted on the walls of houses where Jews lived. The fact that such graffiti happened again caused horror. The photos of the stars are spreading like wildfire on social media.

Suspicions soon arose that it was an anti-Semitic action in the context of the conflict in the Middle East. After all, many Jews live in France, but also many Muslims. French Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin, 41, said he would not rest until those responsible were found. If they were foreigners, he threatened immediate deportation.

Researchers were surprised

The researchers were hesitant to make premature accusations. Because: Unlike the Nazi era, the Stars of David were blue, not yellow. The walls on which the stars were spray-painted seemed to be chosen at random. These were not houses in which Jews lived or worked.

Instead, the entire action is reminiscent of a case that took place a few days earlier in another district of Paris. On October 27, French police arrested a couple from Moldova for painting a Star of David on their wall. They said they got a few hundred euros for it from someone in Russia. They had the evidence on their cell phone.

According to the French newspaper Le Monde, the 60 Stars of David were commissioned through the same scam. CCTV footage shows another couple, apparently also from Moldova, spray-painting the Stars of David on the walls. A third person took photos that later ended up online. All three then immediately left the country. Researchers suspect that Russia is trying to create chaos in an already tense climate. (jwg)
