On Tuesday, Labor Minister Monnujan Sufian announced that textile workers should receive at least 12,500 taka (102 francs) per month from December instead of the previous 8,000 taka (65 francs). The government set the new minimum wage in consultation with representatives of trade unions and factory owners.
Even during the talks, there were sometimes violent protests by thousands of textile workers demanding, among other things, a wage almost twice the current stipulated wage due to the significantly increased cost of living. (SDA)
