Family members of a hostage tell the Israeli newspaper Haaretz how difficult it is to fear for their sister. “We don’t work, we don’t eat, we barely function anymore. My parents have completely grown apart,” says Lea Yanai Mor. Her sister Moran Yanai was kidnapped by Hamas at a techno festival. Since then, no one knows how the 40-year-old is doing or whether she is still alive.
Moran is from Be’er Shera in southern Israel and wanted to sell homemade jewelry at the Supernova festival. “She worked for a whole year to start a jewelry business. Her designs are connected to her love for nature, animals and different cultures. We were happy for them,” says Sister Lea.
But the day ended in tragedy. Around 8 a.m., Moran called her father, crying. “She said she heard loud bangs and lots of gunshots and someone shot at her.” About half an hour later the phone rang again; it was Moran’s last call. “She called my mother in complete panic, crying and apologizing. She said she was scared, running for her life and there were gunshots.”
Family finds Tiktok video of kidnapping
“On Sunday evening (October 8) we found a video on Tiktok showing her being kidnapped by terrorists,” Lea reports. “The video shows her in some kind of pit, begging for her life, while the terrorists say, ‘We caught a Jewish bitch.’” The Israeli military later emerged to inform the family that Moran was likely a member of Hamas hostages. counts.
Since then the pain has been deep. The family feels powerless and hopes that the government will free Moran. Brother Lion Yanai told the newspaper: “I cannot do it as an individual.” He has no choice but to trust the government: “All in all, the military and the authorities are people we have trusted in the past. I ask them to do their job. We have no one else.”
He also hopes that Israel will still agree to the Hamas deal. ‘I cannot tell the government how to act. I am not a soldier or politician.
