This is what the unknown dead woman from Todtnau in the southern Black Forest would have looked like.

On July 24, 1997, a berry collector found the body of an unknown woman in a forest area near Todtnau in the southern Black Forest. Partially burned, it was buried in a hole in the ground near the Weissenbach hiking parking lot. To this day, we still don’t know who the 20-year-old was and who was responsible for her death. That could change quickly.

A face for the unknown dead in the Black Forest

As the “Basler Zeitung” writes, the case was reopened this year. This is how the unknown finally got a face after 26 years. A reconstruction will show what she looked like before her death. This photo was then published in October in the ZDF program “Akenzeichen XY … unresolved” – with success.

After the broadcast, approximately 120 tips had been received by the Lörrach police department and the Waldshut-Tiengen public prosecutor’s office at the end of this month. “People from all over Germany, Switzerland and Austria have come forward,” said Michael Blozik, spokesman for the Waldshut-Tiengen public prosecutor’s office. According to Lörrach police, identification is an important step in solving the case. Only then can the environment be investigated and possible motives get to the bottom of it. This environment could therefore extend to Switzerland. In “Akenzeichen On the one hand because of the place where it was found, and on the other hand because the woman was wearing clothes that at the time could only be bought in Switzerland and Germany, near the border.

However, the researchers have not yet achieved a breakthrough. “As new information comes in, no statement can be made as to how long the investigation will continue,” Blozik said. However, because the crime took place 26 years ago, there is no temporal urgency. Instead, it would now be a matter of gradually erasing the list of clues. (keg)
