This act shocked the whole of France: the Public Prosecutor’s Office in Lyon is investigating an unknown perpetrator who allegedly stabbed a Jewish woman in her own home on Saturday afternoon. The crime was said to have been “committed with an anti-Semitic motive,” the public prosecutor said on Saturday.
The victim’s life is not in danger. A perpetrator has not yet been arrested and is on the run.
The number of anti-Semitic crimes is increasing
According to the victim, someone rang the doorbell. When the young woman opened the door, a masked person stabbed her twice. She then walked away from the crime scene. Before the knife attack, the perpetrator spray-painted a swastika on the apartment door.
The renewed Gaza war has led to an increase in anti-Semitic crimes in France. Within three weeks, more than 850 such actions were registered. Since France is home to both the largest Jewish and largest Muslim communities in Europe, the government is concerned that the conflict in the Middle East will also lead to tensions in France. (no)
