Hamburg Airport is closed after a vehicle entered the grounds. An armed man broke through a gate with his vehicle and drove onto the airport tarmac around 8 p.m., Federal Police spokesman Thomas Gerbert told the German Press Agency on Saturday evening.
The man had a gun and had already shot it into the air twice. He probably has two children on board. The man’s wife had previously reported possible child abduction to state police, the spokesperson said. The newspaper ‘Bild’ first reported this.
Reportedly requested GSG9
There are strong state and federal law enforcement forces on the ground, Gerbert said. They were close to the vehicle. This also includes the Evidence and Arrest Unit of the Federal Police. “They are very robustly equipped,” says Gerbert.
As “Bild” reports, air traffic in Hamburg has completely stopped. All access to the terminals is blocked. The situation is confusing. Apparently the special unit GSG 9 was also requested.
