While regular Hamas fighters wage war against Israel in the Gaza Strip, the puppeteers live abroad. Far from all the terror for which they are responsible, the terrorists are having a good time.

The Hamas leader and his sons
For example Ismail Hanija (61). The head of Hamas lives in Qatar and Turkey. From there he leads the terrorist organization. The US placed the father of 13 children on the global terrorist list in 2018. Chania maintains close relations with Iran and refuses to recognize Israel as a state.

Only in the US, Jordan and Syria, the 72-year-old now lives in the Egyptian capital Cairo. And have fun there. No wonder: he’s also a billionaire. Estimated net worth: $2 billion.

Khalid Mashal
The same goes for Khalid Maschal (67). He was once the head of the terrorist group until Ismail Hanija replaced him in 2017. Like his successor, he now lives in Qatar and heads Hamas’ real estate activities from there. During his escape abroad, Maschal is said to have filled his pockets well. We’re talking about $1.5 billion.

Hamas and its empire
But where does all of Hamas’s money come from? The terrorist group has become wealthy mainly through real estate transactions and investments. According to a US Treasury Department report, Hamas has assets worth more than $500 million in Sudan, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. They invest in other companies through shell companies and buy real estate. They are also active in the construction sector. “Hamas has made enormous sums of money through its secret investment portfolio while destabilizing the Gaza Strip, where living and economic conditions are harsh,” Elizabeth Rosenberg, the US Treasury Department’s Assistant Secretary for Terrorist Financing, said last year.
The US is trying to take action against this and use sanctions to weaken the Hamas empire. Rosenberg continued: “The United States is committed to eliminating Hamas’ ability to generate and move money and to holding Hamas accountable for its role in promoting and perpetrating violence in the region.”
