Two men and two women have died when a sailboat sank off the coast of Portugal. At least three of the victims were Danish, National Maritime Authority (MNA) spokesman José Sousa Luís was quoted as saying by Lusa news agency. A male body has yet to be identified. The accident in the Danish boat took place on Friday about a kilometer from Formosa beach – in Torres Vedras, about 60 kilometers northwest of Lisbon.

Rescue workers initially saved three victims on Friday afternoon: two men and a woman. When the capsized sailboat was rescued, the body of another woman was found inside some time later, Sousa Luís told Lusa. According to the responsible authorities, there were rough seas with high waves and strong winds at the time of the accident.

According to official information, three of the victims washed up on the beach on Friday afternoon without a life jacket and in cardiac arrest. Attempts to immediately revive him failed, it was said. The ages and further information about the victims were initially unknown.
